Quick answer
Can you get into the JAL Sakura Lounge?
  • Atmos Gold, Platinum, or Titanium status gets you into the JAL Sakura Lounge in Honolulu when you fly a same-day international oneworld flight, including Hawaiian Airlines to Japan, Korea, or Australia.
  • Atmos Silver does not get in. Silver maps to oneworld Ruby, which has no lounge benefit.
  • A standalone mainland or interisland trip does not qualify, even in first class. Your status only opens oneworld lounges when the same-day itinerary includes an international oneworld flight.
  • No credit card gets you in directly. The card path is earning Atmos Gold status, and the Atmos Rewards Summit Visa Infinite card can help you get there.
  • Business or first class on a long-haul international oneworld flight also gets you in, no status needed.

Here's the short answer to the JAL Sakura Lounge Honolulu question I get asked almost every week: if you hold Atmos Rewards Gold status or higher and you're flying Hawaiian Airlines (or any oneworld airline) internationally out of HNL that day, you're in, plus one guest. If you're Atmos Silver, or your trip is just to the mainland or another island, you're not.

That changed for us locals on April 22, 2026, when Hawaiian Airlines officially joined oneworld. A lot of what you find on Google is still from before that date, so here are the current rules as of October 2026.

Who can get into the JAL Sakura Lounge in Honolulu?

The JAL Sakura Lounge in Honolulu admits oneworld Sapphire and Emerald members, plus oneworld first and business class passengers, on a same-day oneworld flight. For Hawaii residents, that means Atmos Gold, Platinum, and Titanium members flying Hawaiian internationally, or anyone in business or first class on a long-haul international oneworld flight.

Which status tier

Which Atmos status tier do you need for the Sakura Lounge?

You need Atmos Gold at minimum to use the JAL Sakura Lounge at HNL. Atmos Gold maps to oneworld Sapphire, which unlocks business class lounges like the Sakura Lounge on international oneworld trips. Atmos Platinum and Titanium both map to oneworld Emerald, which adds oneworld first class lounges on top of that.

  • Atmos Silver (oneworld Ruby): 20,000 status points. Priority perks, no oneworld lounge access.
  • Atmos Gold (oneworld Sapphire): 40,000 status points. This is the tier that opens the Sakura Lounge.
  • Atmos Platinum (oneworld Emerald): 80,000 status points. Adds oneworld first class lounges internationally.
  • Atmos Titanium (oneworld Emerald): 135,000 status points. Same lounge access as Platinum.
Mainland and interisland

Does flying Hawaiian to the mainland or interisland get you into the Sakura Lounge?

Usually no. Under oneworld rules, Atmos members at any tier can't use oneworld lounges when traveling only within and between the U.S., Canada, and Mexico. A standalone HNL to Las Vegas, LAX, or Seattle trip doesn't qualify, even at Atmos Titanium. The exception: a mainland flight that connects the same day to a long-haul international oneworld flight on the same ticket (say HNL to LAX to London) can still get you in at HNL.

Credit cards and day passes

Can a credit card or day pass get you into the Sakura Lounge at HNL?

No credit card gets you into the JAL Sakura Lounge at HNL directly. The Sakura Lounge is not a Priority Pass lounge, and the lounge passes on the Atmos Rewards Summit Visa Infinite card are Alaska Lounge passes. The real card play is using spending to earn Atmos Gold status, which then gets you in.

Paid access exists, but only if you're flying JAL. Japan Airlines sells Sakura Lounge access at Honolulu for $75 on a JAL-issued ticket for a JAL-operated flight, bought online before check-in. If you're flying Hawaiian, paying at the door is not an option.

Where it is

Where is the Sakura Lounge at Honolulu airport?

The main JAL Sakura Lounge at HNL is in Terminal 2 on the third level, above The Local @HNL, across from Central Security Checkpoint #3. It's the shared Admirals Club and Sakura Lounge. JAL also runs a smaller Sakura Lounge Hale near Gate C1 for paid and coupon guests, opened around JAL flight times. Atmos elites and oneworld business class passengers use the main lounge.

Starting October 3, 2026, Hawaiian moved check-in and bag drop for all international departures to Terminal 2, Lobby 4. You check in, clear security, and the Sakura Lounge is right there in the same terminal.

Sakura vs. Plumeria

Is the Sakura Lounge better than the Plumeria Lounge?

For most Hawaii travelers flying to Japan, the JAL Sakura Lounge is the better pick over the Plumeria Lounge. The Sakura side brings JAL catering, and with international check-in now in Terminal 2, it's right after security. Atmos Gold and up also get the Plumeria Lounge in Terminal 1 on Hawaiian international flights, and the terminals connect airside, so pick based on your gate.

On the way home, Atmos Gold and up generally get JAL Sakura Lounges at both Haneda and Narita too, and honestly those are a big step up from the Honolulu one.

Step by step

How do you use the JAL Sakura Lounge at HNL?

  1. Confirm your tier. Open the Alaska Airlines or Hawaiian Airlines app and make sure you show Atmos Gold or higher.
  2. Add your Atmos number to the booking so your oneworld Sapphire or Emerald status prints on your boarding pass.
  3. Check in at Terminal 2, Lobby 4 for Hawaiian international departures (new as of October 3, 2026).
  4. Clear security and go up to level 3 above The Local @HNL, across from Central Security Checkpoint #3.
  5. Bring one guest if you want. Your guest must be booked on the same flight.

Scottie's Take

The best thing oneworld gave us locals. Status is the key.

Real talk, this is one of the best things to come out of Hawaiian joining oneworld. For years the Sakura Lounge was something we walked past. Now if you're Atmos Gold and flying to Japan, it's yours, and with international check-in in Terminal 2, it's steps away.

Don't buy a credit card thinking it'll get you in by itself. It won't. If you already fly to Japan once or twice a year with the family, Gold is closer than you think, and the Atmos Summit card can push you over the line if your spending supports it.

FAQ

JAL Sakura Lounge FAQ

Can Atmos Gold members use the JAL Sakura Lounge in Honolulu?

Yes. Atmos Gold maps to oneworld Sapphire, which gets you into the JAL Sakura Lounge at HNL on a same-day international oneworld flight, like Hawaiian Airlines to Japan, Korea, or Australia. You can bring one guest on the same flight. Gold does not get you in for mainland or interisland flights.

Does Atmos Silver get lounge access at HNL?

Atmos Silver does not get Sakura Lounge access, because Silver maps to oneworld Ruby, which has no lounge benefit. Silver members enrolled in Huakaʻi by Hawaiian can use the Hawaiian Airlines Premier Club at HNL with a same-day Hawaiian or Alaska boarding pass.

Can I use the Sakura Lounge flying Hawaiian Airlines to the mainland?

Not on a mainland-only trip. Atmos members can't use oneworld lounges like the Sakura Lounge when traveling only within the U.S., Canada, and Mexico, even at Atmos Titanium. A mainland flight that connects the same day to a long-haul international oneworld flight on the same ticket can qualify.

Does the Atmos Rewards Summit card give Sakura Lounge access?

Not directly. The Atmos Rewards Summit Visa Infinite comes with Alaska Lounge passes that work at Alaska Lounges only, not the Sakura or Plumeria Lounge. The card helps by earning Atmos status points toward Gold, and Gold is what unlocks the Sakura Lounge.

Can you buy a day pass to the JAL Sakura Lounge in Honolulu?

Only on a JAL-issued ticket for a JAL-operated flight. Japan Airlines sells paid Sakura Lounge access at Honolulu, bought online before check-in. Passengers flying Hawaiian Airlines cannot pay for entry at the door.

Where is the Sakura Lounge at Honolulu airport?

The main JAL Sakura Lounge at HNL is in Terminal 2 on the third level, above The Local @HNL and across from Central Security Checkpoint #3. It's shared with the American Airlines Admirals Club. The smaller Sakura Lounge Hale near Gate C1 is for JAL's paid and coupon guests.

Can I bring my family into the Sakura Lounge?

Atmos Gold, Platinum, and Titanium members can bring one guest into the Sakura Lounge, and that guest must be on the same flight. For a family of four, that usually means two people need qualifying status or a premium cabin ticket.
