"Seven years ago, we only used Hawaiian miles for an occasional free flight. After working with Scottie, we've earned over 1.4 million points and haven't paid for flights, hotels, or car rentals in over 4 years, just the taxes. We pay our cards off monthly, our credit scores are both over 800."
Daniel & Shira Peters

Common questions
Points and miles, answered
What does Hawaii Reward Travel actually do?
We teach Hawaiʻi residents how to earn and redeem credit card points for travel that starts and ends in the islands. That means free 1-on-1 coaching through the ʻOhana Program, plus guides and tools built specifically around Honolulu routes and the award programs that serve them.
Is the ʻOhana Program really free?
Yes. There is no charge to join and no charge for coaching sessions. You are never asked to buy anything to get help. More than 400 Hawaiʻi families have gone through the program.
Do I need excellent credit to start?
Not to start learning. Card approvals are decided by each issuer based on their own criteria, so a stronger credit profile opens up more options. Coaching starts with where you are today, including what to do first if you are still building credit. Points strategies only work if you pay your balance in full every month.
What is Atmos Rewards?
Atmos Rewards is the loyalty program that launched in September 2025 when HawaiianMiles merged into Alaska Airlines Mileage Plan. The currency is called Atmos Points. For most people flying out of Honolulu, it is now the single most important program to understand. Our Atmos Rewards guide covers the basics.
How many points does it take to fly from Honolulu to Japan?
It depends on the program you book through, the cabin, and the date. The same seat can cost wildly different amounts depending on which airline's award chart you use, which is why we track live availability rather than quoting one number. Our Fly to Japan guide walks through the routes and programs that tend to price best from HNL.
Are points worth it if I mostly fly inter-island?
Often yes, because inter-island fares are short but frequent, and the points add up from spending you already do on groceries, gas, dining and utilities. Many island families use points to cover neighbor island hops and save the bigger balances for a mainland or international trip.
