Award Alert: HNL to Tokyo Haneda Economy for 20,750 Avios

⏱ 3 min read

Aloha ʻohana. Hawaiian Airlines officially joined Oneworld on April 22, and the alliance access has already cracked open a real winner for HNL travelers heading to Japan. You can now book the Hawaiian/Alaska A330 between Honolulu and Tokyo Haneda through Qatar Airways Privilege Club for 20,750 Avios plus about $5.60 in taxes, one-way. That is the lowest economy redemption we have ever tracked on this route. There is one thing to know about the cabin before you book.

Real Talk on the Cabin
The 20,750 Avios price is for economy only. We have not seen Avios saver space open up in business class on this route, so do not go hunting for the lie-flat seat at this rate. If you want J to Tokyo, Atmos Rewards is still the right tool. For economy, this is the cheapest way out of HNL to Japan we have tracked, and the seat is the same wide-body A330 product Hawaiian has flown for years.

HNL to HND for 20,750 Avios in economy on the Hawaiian/Alaska A330. Booked through Qatar Airways Privilege Club.

Why You Can Book Hawaiian Through Avios Now

Before April 22, this booking was not possible. Hawaiian was not in any major alliance, so partner programs could not sell their seats. The Oneworld move changed that overnight. Qatar Airways Privilege Club uses Avios as its currency and runs one of the most aggressive distance-based award charts in the alliance. HNL to Tokyo lands right in their economy sweet spot, which is how we end up at 20,750.

For comparison, the same flight in economy costs 30,000 Atmos Rewards points. Avios saves you 9,250 points per ticket, per direction. Round trip for two travelers, that is 37,000 points back in your account. Atmos is still the right tool for premium cabins on this route. For economy, Avios is the new answer.

Inside the Ohana
Avios is one of the easiest currencies to earn because it is a transfer partner of every major US bank rewards program. Chase, Amex, Capital One, Citi, Bilt. They all play. A single solid welcome bonus on the right card can put a round trip Tokyo seat in your hand. Inside the Hawaii Reward Travel Ohana we go deep on the cards worth applying for right now and the order to apply in so you do not block yourself out of better cards down the line. If you are building a Japan stack, that is where the strategy lives.

Scottie's Take

This is what we have been waiting on. Hawaiʻi has always paid the Hawaiʻi tax on award redemptions, even when the math should have been in our favor. With Hawaiian fully inside Oneworld, that is starting to shift, and the first real wins are landing exactly where they should: economy to Asia, on metal we already know and trust. 20,750 points to Tokyo is not a fluke. It is what alliance access actually unlocks for my people out here, and I expect more sweet spots to surface over the next few months as partners catch up.

If Japan is on your list this year or next and the dates work, move on it. If it is not, start banking transferable points now. We will have plenty more to do with them. Mahalo, and safe travels.
