Oahu Hotels Offering Kamaaina Rates From $99/Night for Flood Displaced Residents

Floodwaters swallow homes on Oahu's North Shore during the March 2026 Kona low storm. Photo shared from the community.

UPDATED: March 21, 2026 — Hotel list expanded to 13 properties, rates now starting at $99/night. Phone numbers added below.

Aloha ʻohana,

If you needed a picture to understand what our North Shore ʻohana are dealing with right now, that photo above says it all. Those are homes. Real homes, belonging to real families in our community, swallowed by brown floodwaters. I have been staring at images like this all day and honestly it is a lot to take in.

Before we talk about anything else today, I just want to say: I hope you and your family are safe, dry, and accounted for. This Kona low has been no joke. My heart goes out to everyone on the North Shore, especially our brothers and sisters in Haleʻiwa, Waialua, and the surrounding communities who have had to evacuate their homes. That is not easy. My prayers are with every single one of you. Please stay safe and please listen to the emergency officials. Stuff can be replaced. You cannot.

Now, here is the most important thing I can share with you right now if you or someone you know has been displaced.

State Activates Emergency Hotel Discount Program for Displaced Residents

Governor Josh Green initially announced kamaʻāina hotel rates on Friday evening, March 20, asking Waikiki properties to open up discounted rooms for residents who cannot be at home or choose not to go to a shelter. The next day, the program expanded significantly.

As of Saturday March 21, Senator Glenn Wakai shared updated details directly: the participating hotel list has grown to 13 properties, and discounted rates now start at $99 per night plus applicable taxes. That is a dramatic drop from the initial $191 figure and makes this genuinely accessible for most families who need it.

This is not a website form or a voucher process. You just call the hotel directly and ask for the displaced resident rate. Simple as that.

What Is Happening Out There Right Now

For those who may be catching up: Oʻahu has been getting hammered by a serious Kona low system that brought catastrophic flooding across much of the island. The North Shore was hit especially hard, with evacuation orders issued for Waialua and Haleʻiwa communities due to dangerously rising water levels. Thousands of residents were asked to leave their homes and get to higher ground.

As of Friday evening, state emergency officials reported that the Wahiawa Dam is stable and the evacuation area has been reduced, which is encouraging. But conditions are still serious, roads remain dangerous, and the ground is completely saturated from back-to-back storms that have hit the islands this month.

Please stay off flooded roads. No errand, no photo, nothing is worth it. If you have ʻohana on the North Shore, check on them. If they need a place to stay, share this post with them right now.

Scottie's Take!

Writing about hotel rates on a day like today feels a little different from my usual points and miles content, but getting this information out fast is exactly what this community is for. The fact that the rate dropped from $191 all the way down to $99 overnight means someone was listening and pushing for more. Mahalo to Senator Wakai for sharing the updated details and to every hotel on that list for stepping up.

If you or your ʻohana need a safe place to stay tonight, please call. No hesitation. That is exactly what this program is for and these hotels are staffed and ready.

To everyone on the North Shore who has had to evacuate, who lost belongings, or who watched floodwater rise inside their home: I am thinking of you and I am praying for you. Hawaiʻi always shows up for its own, and we will show up for you too.

Stay dry, stay safe, and take care of each other. Aloha pumehana to every single one of you. 🤙🙏
