2 Ways to Book Business class HNL–Tokyo with Points [dates included]
Aloha Hawaii travelers,
Dreaming of Japan? ✈️ From Honolulu, here are two excellent ways to book flights to Tokyo (either Narita or Haneda) using your credit card points or airline miles, even if you don’t have HawaiianMiles or Alaska Miles.
✈️ Option 1: Fly ANA via Virgin Atlantic Miles (Narita Airport – NRT)
One of the best sweet spots in award travel is booking ANA flights through Virgin Atlantic Flying Club.
How it works:
Call Virgin Atlantic Flying Club at 1-800-365-9500 to check ANA award availability from HNL to NRT (yes, you have to call to confirm).
If seats are available, transfer points from Amex, Chase, or Capital One to Virgin Atlantic. Dates are usually t-14 (related 14 days before departure).
Complete the booking with the agent over the phone.
⚠️ Important: Never transfer points until you’ve confirmed availability by phone. Transfers are one-way and non-reversible!
✈️ Option 2: Fly Hawaiian Airlines to Haneda (HND) via Partner Airlines
If ANA isn’t available or you prefer a more direct route to Haneda, Hawaiian Airlines is another option. They sometime have “reward” dates that go for 50% off using your miles and are available to be booked by partner airlines.

Or, if you don’t have those miles, look for availability through partners like:
British Airways Avios (transfer from Chase)
American Airlines AAdvantage
Qantas Frequent Flyer
These partner programs sometimes show the same award seats for less miles than booking directly through Hawaiian!
