What changes with Chase to Hyatt transfers on October 1, 2026?

Starting October 1, 2026, Chase Sapphire Preferred and Ink Business Preferred cardholders transfer Ultimate Rewards points to World of Hyatt at 4:3 instead of 1:1. That is a 25% cut, so 100,000 Chase points become 75,000 Hyatt points. Chase Sapphire Reserve and Sapphire Reserve for Business cardholders keep the 1:1 ratio.

Here's the move for island families who already have a Hyatt plan, like a Hyatt Regency Waikiki staycation, a Maui getaway, or a Japan trip:

1. Price out the exact Hyatt award you want before moving anything.
2. Combine your Freedom Flex, Freedom Unlimited, or Ink Cash points into your Sapphire Preferred or Ink Preferred.
3. Transfer only what you will actually use to World of Hyatt by Tuesday, September 29, HST.
4. Book the award, or at least confirm the points landed in your Hyatt account.

Good to know

Transfers are one way. Once Chase points become Hyatt points, you cannot move them back or send them to Southwest or United later. Hyatt points stay alive as long as your account has activity at least once every 24 months, but don't lock up points you might need for flights.

Which credit card credits expire September 30, 2026?

The biggest Q3 credits expiring September 30, 2026 are the Amex Platinum up to $100 Resy credit and up to $75 lululemon credit. Several Hilton and business cards also carry quarterly credits. Each one resets October 1, and whatever you don't use this quarter is gone. Enrollment is required for select benefits.

• Monthly credits reset too: Amex Platinum and Gold monthly credits like Uber Cash and dining or digital entertainment credits also reset October 1, so use September's before Wednesday.
• Rotating 5% cards: Chase Freedom Flex, Discover it, and U.S. Bank Cash+ Q3 categories also end September 30, so finish any planned gas or transit spend now.

What are the Chase Freedom Flex categories for Q4 2026?

Chase Freedom Flex Q4 2026 categories are grocery stores (excluding Walmart and Target), dining, and donations to the American Red Cross. They earn 5% on up to $1,500 in combined purchases from October 1 through December 31, 2026. Because Freedom Flex already earns 3% on dining, restaurant spend earns 7% total this quarter.

The 17x Paze play

From October 1 through December 31, 2026, Freedom Flex dining can earn up to 17x points. Here is the math: 7x from Q4 dining plus Chase's extra 10x when you check out with Paze on up to $1,500 a month. Order online directly from a restaurant that offers Paze at checkout (many use Clover online ordering), pick Paze, and choose your Freedom Flex. The 7x part stops after $1,500 in Q4 category spend, and Paze bonus points can take up to eight weeks to post.

Quick tip

Freedom Flex dropped its foreign transaction fee in September 2026, so it now works on a Tokyo trip too. Just remember: points earned on Freedom Flex and moved into a Sapphire Preferred after October 1 also transfer to Hyatt at the new 4:3 rate.

Moving Chase points to Hyatt before October 1, 2026 is worth it only if you have a specific Hyatt stay in mind. Sapphire Preferred and Ink Business Preferred holders lock in 1:1 through September 30. Transfers are permanent, so points sent to Hyatt can never go back to Chase or to airline partners.

Honestly, the Hyatt change stings. For years Chase to Hyatt at 1:1 was the move I shared with almost every family I coached. But please don't panic transfer your whole balance. If you have a real Hyatt trip on the calendar, move those points this week. If not, keep them flexible. 4:3 to Hyatt is still a solid deal, and Chase points still get you to the mainland and Japan in plenty of other ways.
