Citi now joins Bilt Rewards and Capital One as a way to earn JAL Mileage Bank miles with flexible card points. For us in Hawaiʻi, that matters because JAL flies nonstop to Japan from both Honolulu and Kona, and JAL Mileage Bank lets members book JAL award seats up to 360 days out, right when the schedule opens.
How many Citi points do you need to fly Honolulu to Japan on JAL?
With the 30% bonus, a one way JAL business class award from Honolulu to Japan costs about 33,100 Citi points instead of 43,000. Economy drops to about 15,400 Citi points. These are JAL's base award prices published on its official award chart, updated April 16, 2026, and they only apply when saver level seats are open.

Here's how that plays out for a couple from Honolulu. Round trip JAL business class for two at base pricing is 172,000 JAL miles. During the bonus, that's about 132,400 Citi points, a savings of roughly 39,700 points compared to a regular 1:1 transfer.
The bonus ends October 24, 2026 at 11:59 PM Eastern, which is 5:59 PM Hawaiʻi time. Don't wait until that evening.
JAL Mileage Bank awards are for family only.
